Tom Menary
From "Wingless" (2011)
Born in Coventry in 1986, Tom met Jim Elton at Bridgwater College while undertaking a course in Media Studies. He joined the film and sketch troupe Eternal Silence, and made several short films with Jim and Sean McArthur. Continuing on to study English and Creative Writing at Plymouth University, Tom maintained his association with Jim, working together to create early films including the machinema project Striker, the Michael Mann inspired Jericho, and The Walk.
In December 2010 they formed Wingless Films with the release of Captive, co-starring Annie Knight. Tom would go on to star in every Wingless Films production, taking scriptwriting and music composition duties alongside the Director of Photography, Jim. As of April 2013 they boast thirty-six short productions in their filmography, including the pilot episode of The Lite Blues web series co-developed and scripted by Tom.
In March 2012 Tom portrayed David York in John Tomkins' They're Coming, a paranoid thriller filmed and set in Torquay. He also played the protagonist in Craig Whyte's 360-degree sci-fi film, Hypersleep, and re-teamed with Tomkins to play The Narrator in A Dark Tale (2013). He provided scores for several shorts in 2013, including The Red-Hooded Girl and Self-Control, in which he starred as James.
He takes inspiration from Doctor Who, Star Wars and Neil Gaiman, and is in love with music in general, film music in particular, and the work of John Williams and Murray Gold especially. He agrees that we're all just stories in the end, so make it a good one.
